The Sound of OPEN Topics.
The breadth of topics is matched by the breadth of locations our thought leaders represent.
— The OT18 Team
Are you obsolete, already? “I’m still working in the creative and design space, but with a very different focus in working with data scientists and engineers much more closely than I ever imagined I would.”
Is your data ready to breed? “I want to create a way to take the meaning of things in huge amounts of data and transform them into models such that humans and machines can find some form of lingua franca.”
Is the next #MeToo about #Money? “We need to understand that boards have to be diverse, that 9-5 is bullshit, that it’s wrong to think that mothers perform worse than their colleagues when research proves the opposite.”
How green is your blockchain? “Developing countries are not only facing problems linking to energy supplies, but companies delivering off-grid power systems are also confronted by entrenched interests and market structures.”
Is your virtual my reality? “I’ve been in advertising long enough to know that I don’t want to pollute the world with another bad experience. We want to give consumers something that adds value to their lives. That is the fundamental goal. With VR, it’s the quality of the experience.”
How can happiness add value to work? “What I wanted was basically a crazy idea: if I can tell 10 million people what Ali taught me and make them happy as an end result, then I have given them life. This wouldn't bring him back, but it would at least make the days ahead a little better than the day when he left.”
Who’s at the center of your designs? “As people who bring new things into the world, we marketers and designers need to be really careful of the way that we’re going about it. It’s not good enough to just create something; you need to have a purpose behind it.”
Which brands will rule your future home? “Home is the new store, and the thing that I’m holding in my hand, my mobile, is the key driver in this comfortable home.”
Are we losing our non-digital history? “MTV had gold. But they also knew the tapes were on a path of physical degradation, in addition to being aware of the obsolescence of the related hardware. This can be a known thing, but that doesn’t always drive companies to write the check. You need savvy leadership.”
Can a brand be ‘woke’ better? “You want to support Colin Kaepernick now that it makes more business sense for you, versus when he first took the knee? I don’t have any respect for that. I don’t, I don’t. Because you know, yeah, the man did sacrifice something—two years ago.”
Will fintech fix the future? “Banking has been made better because of the rise of the Fintech ecosystem, and the winner is the consumer. It’s as if the industry’s relationship with its customers has been rejuvenated.”
What is the sound of success? “Being able to translate something and then transcreate to that local market is very nuanced, and it’s been a huge learning for me. Just being able to adapt your thinking in a way that, for example, is this too culturally one-sided? You have to really have a world view of who your users are.”
